They found seven moves done without moving licenses, so I had to go to court, and I paid a fine of $100 for seven misdemeanors. I didn’t know anything about moving laws, and one day the state police came and looked at our paperwork. The moving industry is a good-old-boys’ network, and they put up all kinds of barriers to stop me. We did small moves, but when the economy got bad in the early ’90s, they wanted our business. Their trucks were big, and they did moves cross-country. I heard somebody say, “She’ll never leave,” and I couldn’t stand it there anymore. I quit my day job and went full-time after being overlooked for a promotion. I added one truck and three employees every May until we had five trucks parked in my mom’s backyard. I sat down and wrote 10 checks of $100 each, and I gave the money away to local charities. We will never again employ the services or recommend Two Men and a Truck. But that first year I made $1,000 and felt so empowered. The reason we chose Two Men and a Truck was because they were closer to where we were living, but we have paid more than we would have done with the other removalists. We even had more items (a trampoline with a heavy box, a loft bed, two bicycles and three chairs, and many boxes) that Two Men and a Truck did not take. That time, we didn't help the removalists with any boxes, plus nothing was damaged. Recently, we moved a greater distance with another removalist company (around 40 minutes' driving time), and we were charged the same as Two Men and a Truck (5 minutes' driving time) - that's even taking into account the price after the $150 discount from Two Men and a Truck. We were offered an extra $50 however, the bike cost more than $300, not including the cost of the bookcase. There was not even a tailgate or metal ramp on the van, so this makes it longer for the removalists to load and unload items, causing more fatigue. Because they were over 1.15 hours late the driveway was no longer accessible, and my husband even had to park his car to secure a space for the truck to be closer. This was not far, and the distance would have been even shorter if they had arrived on time. ![]() When we rang team for an extra discount for the inconvenience and damage caused, they were immediately on the defensive and told us that we should have selected Full Insurance Cover instead of Standard Insurance Cover - even though the items of furniture were damaged due to the carelessness of the removalists! Furthermore, they stated that it took them longer to unload due to the distance between the truck on the road and the property. ![]() Read more the removalists failed to mention the damage to the bookcase until we asked them about it. A bookcase and bike were damaged (even before they were loaded onto the truck), and. We were given a discount of $100 however, the removalists charged us for 3.75 hours for 3 minutes over 3.5 hours (another $50!) when we even helped them carry many items. This negatively impacted us as we had to reorganise many things. ![]() We had to wait 1.15 hours extra than the 3-hour timeframe given for the removalists to arrive, and then we were the ones who had to contact the company twice to ask what was happening when they did not turn up within the 3 hours.
